What’s the Latest on Single-Stage Exchange for PJI?

    The concept of single-stage exchange in total hip and total knee arthroplasty patients who develop a periprosthetic joint infection is becoming more appealing to surgeons in the US, Bryan D. Springer, MD, told attendees at ICJR’s 13th Annual Winter Hip & Knee Course. But much more data are needed before single-stage exchange can be routinely recommended.

    Bryan D. Springer, MD, is the Adult Reconstruction Fellowship Director at the OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also a Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Atrium Musculoskeletal Institute.
