Recipes for Success in Joint Replacement: Total Hip Arthroplasty
One of the most popular sessions at ICJR’s 12th Annual Winter Hip & Knee Course, held earlier this year, was Recipes from My THA Cookbook, moderated by Daniel J. Berry, MD.
During the session, Dr. Berry challenged a panel of experienced joint replacement surgeons to quickly identify – and justify, in some cases – their typical perioperative management of total hip arthroplasty patients.
Responding to the challenge were panel members Stefan W. Kreuzer, MD; Ryan M. Nunley, MD; Michael J. Taunton, MD; and William J. Hozack, MD, who discussed a range of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative practices, including:
- BMI cut-off for surgery
- Weaning patients from preoperative opioid use
- Surgical approach
- Cup positioning
- Prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism
