FEATURED SURGERY: Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty with a Short Humeral Stem

In a procedure broadcast to attendees at ICJR’s 8th Annual Shoulder Course, Patrick St. Pierre, MD, from Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center in Rancho Mirage, California, performs a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty on a 67-year-old female patient with pseudoparesis of her right shoulder due to a rotator cuff tear.

SAVE THE DATE: 9th Annual Shoulder Course, October 15-17 in Las Vegas!

The patient has a history of intermittent shoulder pain prior to a traumatic injury: When lifting a heavy trash can, she felt a ripping sensation in her right shoulder. She has failed conservative treatment (injections and therapy), never regaining the ability to lift her arm. Forward flexion is 60°, abduction is 45°, and external rotation is 35°.
