FEATURED SURGERY: DAA THA with a Powered Impacting System and Computer Navigation

Anthony T. Carter, MD, from Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital, from Newport News, Virginia, performs a primary total hip arthroplasty utilizing the direct anterior approach in a procedure that was broadcast live to attendees at ICJR’s 7th Annual Direct Anterior Approach Hip Course.

The patient is a 60-year-old male with long-standing right hip pain. He had been working as a boat mechanic until about 3 months before surgery: He was unable to maneuver into the small spaces on a boat due to pain and stiffness in his hip.

Showing the radiograph used to template the procedure, Dr. Carter noted that the patient has good offset, a relatively long femoral neck, and few osteophytes.
