FEATURED SURGERY: Cementless TKA in the Ambulatory Surgery Setting
In a pre-recorded surgery presented at the 9th Annual ICJR South Hip & Knee Course, Gregory G. Polkowski II, MD, MSc, performs a cementless primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in a 63-year-old female patient with osteoarthritis and mild varus deformity.
The procedure was done at an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) that opened earlier this year. Dr. Polkowski said that since he has performed joint replacement surgery at the ASC, he has increased the percentage of patients who receive a cementless knee from about 20% to 50% to 60%.
R. Michael Meneghini, MD, and Raymond H. Kim, MD, joined Dr. Polkowski in discussing the case, providing commentary and asking questions to clarify points and elicit additional tips about the procedure and workflow in an ASC.
